How do I choose the right dumpster size?
When choosing your rental, consider the amount of waste you anticipate and the available space.
Our team can discuss your projects to make a recommendation, but you can also consult our Dumpster Rental Sizes & Pricing Guide and Debris Calculator to help in your decision-making.
What is the most common dumpster rental size?
20-yard and 30-yard dumpsters are the most commonly rented.
What is the most common size dumpster for construction and commercial jobs?
The 30-yard dumpster is the most common for commercial and construction jobs. 40-yard units are also used, but not as often.
What is the most common dumpster size for residential jobs?
The 20-yard dumpster is the most common unit for residential dumpster rentals. 10-yard and 15-yard dumpsters are also popular.
How big is a dumpster bag?
These bags are usually between 2.5 and 5 cubic yards. Most are around 3 cubic yards.
What is the typical rental period for a roll-off dumpster?
The typical rental period is 10 to 14 days, but you can find dumpster rentals for longer terms. Our team will discuss your project requirements to provide a quote and plan deliveries and final pick-ups.
Where can I place a dumpster rental?
Dumpsters should be placed on hard, flat ground with room to access both ends. You can also put a piece of plywood under the dumpster to prevent damage to the ground below.
We see customers place dumpsters on:
- Their property — for example, in a driveway or yard
- Behind their home or business
- Public parking lots or streets
- Sidewalks
- Trails
- Construction sites
- Fields and grass
- Or in any open space free of low-hanging power lines
Please note we can’t place dumpsters on hills or an incline.
What items can’t be disposed of in a rental dumpster?
We can not accept any type of hazardous materials or waste, including:
- Pesticides
- Motor oil
- Freon
- Tires
- Inks and resins
- Asbestos
- Etc.
When placing the order, please disclose any questionable items so we can advise you of any potential issues. Including these items without prior consultation can result in additional fees and the need to unload them before removal.
Does ASAP Marketplace recycle waste from rental dumpsters?
Haulers will recycle what they can. If you have a large amount of construction and demolition debris, you can order an additional bin for recyclable materials that can be brought directly to recycling services.
Do you need a permit to rent a dumpster?
You do not need a permit to rent a dumpster if you’re placing it:
- On your property (in your driveway or yard)
- Behind your home or business (with the property owner’s permission)
You do need a permit if you place the dumpster on public property — streets, sidewalks, parking lots, trails, etc. — or any location that blocks a public area.
How do you prepare for dumpster drop-off?
All we need to know is where and what time you want the dumpster(s) dropped off. After we have placement instructions, we’ll take care of the rest.
You don’t need to be present or available for drop-off, but it’s helpful if you leave a contact number in case we have questions or need to reach you.
What happens if you overload a dumpster?
Exceeding your allotted tonnage amount may result in additional charges. Haulers may also ask you to remove items if dumpsters are significantly overloaded and cannot be picked up for emptying. If an additional service is needed, it would require the rental of another container.
What happens if haulers cannot access dumpsters for removals?
There would be a dry-run fee assessed for the unsuccessful trip.
