Dumpster Rental FAQ’s
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know what size roll off dumpster I need?
It depends on the size of your project and how much space you have to store the dumpster. Roll-off dumpster rental sizes are typically measured in cubic yards. The exterior dimensions of the dumpster are usually measured in feet. To find the volume of a dumpster rental you simply multiply the exterior dimensions of width, height and length in feet and then divide the final figure by 27 to determine total volume in cubic yards. Am I able to choose where the roll off dumpster is placed?
We recommend placing on a flat, hard surface with room to access both ends and that will not not block any of your entry ways. If there are concerns about potential damage to the surface of where you’re requesting placement, we recommend putting down a piece of plywood for protection. If you’d like to request we place the dumpster on the road or street in front of your house, be sure that you have a permit to provide to us for the dumpster prior to the delivery.
What happens if I overfill the dumpster?
If debris is filled above the wall height or if the container is too heavy for the truck to lift, you would be responsible for off-loading the container into another dumpster. This would incur an additional fee in the form of an additional container, or a swap-and-return for the existing unit.
What would happen if the container is unable to be removed because the driver could not access?
There would be a dry-run fee assessed for the wasted trip to the location.
Would there be any additional fees after paying for the roll off dumpster at the time the order is placed?
Additional fees can occur if you exceed your allotted tonnage amount or exceed the number of days included in the rental.
Do I need to be present when the roll off dumpster is delivered?
No, you do not have to be onsite at the time of delivery or removal. However, to ensure we are meeting your expectations, we ask that you provide specific placement instructions and contact information for the person who would be available to take a call should questions arise.
What happens if it rains?
Nothing, you can continue to use your dumpster even if it is raining. However you should be aware that calling for a removal on a rainy day does pose some challanges. First, the dumpster will weight more which will drive up your costs. Second, if the ground is very muddy the driver may not be able to pick up your unit which will result in a dry run fee.
Can I place a dumpster on my driveway?
Driveways and streets are ideal locations for a roll off dumpster. In most cases, a roll off dumpster can be safely placed on your driveway without causing any damage. However, it's important to note that some factors may affect whether or not this is possible, such as the weight of the dumpster and the condition of your driveway. Particularly heavy dumpsters can crack your driveway. We recommend placing plywood down to help add an additional layer of protection.
Can I place a dumpster in my yard?
Yes you can, but there are several risks. First, if the ground is soft the dumpster and the truck will likely rip up your grass and leave tracks in your grass. In some cases the dumspter can get stuck if it recently rained, which will incur a dry run fee. Second, if you have sprinklers the dumspter can easily damage your irrigation system. Third, if you have a septic tank and you do not clearly mark its location, you run the risk of the truck damaging your tank. Speak with an ASAP advisor today if you have any questions about palcement.
What is an inactivity fee or demurrage?
The inactivity fee, or demurrage, is charged if you keep the dumpster for longer than the designated rental period and may vary depending on the rental company. To avoid these fees, it's best to estimate your project timeline accurately and communicate this to your ASAP Advisor. ASAP Marketplace has several options for your project so we can help you find the one that best fits your need.
What is a dry run fee?
A dry run fee in roll off dumpsters is a charge applied to customers who schedule delivery of a container, but cancel the service with little or no prior notice. This fee compensates the vendor company for their lost time as their schedules are frequently set a day in advance.
What can’t be placed in the roll off dumpster?
We can not accept any type of hazardous waste such as pesticides, motor oil, freon, tires, etc. We ask that when placing the order, you disclose what you’re looking to dispose of so that we can advise of any potential issues. Including these items without prior consultation can result in additional fees, as well as having to unload these items prior to removal.
