A 40-yard dumpster is typically utilized for large-scale projects that generate significant volumes of waste. It has a capacity equivalent to 16 standard pickup trucks, or about 240 32-gallon trash bags, making it ideal for uses such as:

A 40-yard dumpster can accommodate a wide range of materials for disposal. Please be sure to specify what materials you plan on putting in the unit so we can plan accordingly. For example, drywall and insulation material sometimes require proof it is asbestos-free, and some appliances/pieces of furniture require an extra fee paid to the landfill.

Some of the acceptable materials typically allowed in a 40-yard dumpster include:

  • Construction debris such as wood, drywall, flooring, and insulation
  • Large furniture and appliances such as couches, tables, chairs, and dressers
  • Yard waste such as tree branches, brush, and leaves
  • Household trash
  • Packaging materials
  • Non-hazardous solid waste

When placing an order, please be sure to specify what materials you will be disposing of so our team can plan appropriately and help avoid any delays or unforeseen additional costs.

Certain heavy materials, including roofing shingles, concrete, and dirt, should not be placed in 40-yard dumpsters due to their weight. Including such materials can make the dumpster excessively heavy, making it challenging for the truck to remove or transport it within legal limits. In addition to these, here are some other examples of materials that are not acceptable for a 40-yard dumpster:

  • Hazardous waste
  • Batteries
  • Tires
  • Appliances containing Freon such as refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners
  • Railroad ties
  • Roof shingles
  • Dirt or sand
  • Large amounts of concrete or metal

What are the dimensions of the 40-yard roll-off?

plus minus
The typical dimensions of a 40-yard roll-off are: 7’ H x 21’11” L x 7’ W. While these exact dimensions may vary by company, the volume of the dumpster is always 40 cubic yards.

How do I know what size roll off dumpster I need?

plus minus
It depends on the size of your project and how much space you have to store the dumpster. Roll-off dumpster rental sizes are typically measured in cubic yards. The exterior dimensions of the dumpster are usually measured in feet. To find the volume of a dumpster you simply multiply the exterior dimensions of width, height and length in feet and then divide the final figure by 27 to determine total volume in cubic yards. What happens if I overfill the dumpster?

plus minus
If debris is filled above the wall height or items are included in the container making the container overweight, you would be responsible for off-loading the container into another dumpster. This would force having to pay for another container and the labor involved with making the container safe to haul.

What can’t be placed in the roll off dumpster?

plus minus
We can not accept any type of hazardous waste such as pesticides, motor oil, freon, tires, etc. We ask that when placing the order, you disclose what you’re looking to dispose of so that we can advise of any potential issues. Including these items could result in additional fees and having to unload these items prior to removal.

Do I need to be present when the roll off dumpster is delivered?

plus minus
No, you do not have to be onsite at the time of delivery or removal. However, to ensure we are meeting your expectations, we ask that you provide specific placement instructions and contact information for the person who would be available to take a call should questions arise.
